We are excited to announce that Our Hidden Heroes will soon become part of The Critical Thinking Consortium (www.tc2.ca)
The Our Hidden Heroes Program Our Hidden Heroes is a renowned series of action-based social responsibility/character education teaching resources developed for grades 1 through 8. (Grade 10 Planning is coming) The program is designed by teachers for teachers, (one D.Ed., two Masters of Education and one B.Ed.). Our materials feature comprehensive, teacher-friendly lesson plans that will excite teachers and empower and motivate children.
Teachers: While motivating students to notice and celebrate the Hidden Hero (positive role model) that lies within each one of them and also within the ordinary, everyday people in their families, communities and schools, each Our Hidden Heroes lesson meets at least two of British Columbia's Social Responsibility Performance Standards, and features a variety of engaging student activities handouts, self-assessment and teacher-assessment tools. The program also integrates well with learning outcomes for language arts, personal planning, social studies and ethics. It also supports programs such as the Virtues Project.
Although developed inBritish Columbia, our lesson plans and student exercises have been well received by teachers inAlberta, Ontarioand Western Quebec. NOTE TO ONTARIO TEACHERS -- Each lesson in the Our Hidden Heroes program is linked to the Ontario Curriculum and TDSB's Character Development Initiative. See the teachers' section for more details.
BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS -- Students learn to: * Identify Hidden Heroes in their families, schools and communities * Analyze the values, characteristics and strengths that make these people Hidden Heroes * Seek out, study and activate the Hidden Hero that lies within each one of them * Strengthen their language arts and critical thinking skills
Bullying: * Although we make a point to never use the word “bullying” in our materials, many teachers have reported Our Hidden Heroes to be a “proactive anti-bullying program.”
